ATHENS – Betty Cooley, 86, of Athens passed away Tuesday morning, February 26, 2013 at Lindley Inn following an extended illness. Born January 3, 1927 in Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Vinton C. and Emma Sprouse White. She was a graduate of Rome Canaan High School where she was a cheerleader and track star. She owned and operated Union Printing Company with her late husband until retiring in 1991. Betty was a Past Matron of Athens Chapter #175 Order of Eastern Star. She was a past president of District #25 and served the Grand Chapter of Ohio as Grand Esther in 1966. She was a member of Central Avenue United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She is survived by her two children, Susan (Jeff) Bunch and Robert (Nan) Cooley; three grandchildren, Scott and Chris Bunch and Brynn Cooley; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Cooley. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cooley; five brothers, Clarence, Richard, Leslie, Edward and Lewis White. Services will be Friday at 11:00am at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home. Paul Risler, Pastor of the Central United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at West Union Street Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm where an Eastern Star service will be conducted at 5:30 pm.
